Team leader as coach

TCS provides team leaders with all the tools necessary to speedily promote high team performance. For some team leaders it provides an excellent opportunity to hone leadership skills. Many find the support of a one-to-one coaching process valuable. Activity and results can be monitored from day one.

The team is in control of its own development

TCS provides a variety of tools for the team to grow and improve performance. They control their own development plan. TCS offers flexibility to choose how and when to progress the learning and development programme. This approach generates commitment and ownership of the process as well as fitting in with current business drivers. They can see how they are progressing on a weekly basis.

Corporate alignment

TCS can be aligned to key aspects of corporate culture:

TCS alignment with your company means that your existing investment in training and development can be maximised.

Self-assessment profiles

In the first month of a team development programme teams review team and individual self-perception profiles along with the perceptions from other stakeholders.

The self-administered tools enable a team to review:

Because they are self-administered Apian profiles give teams a clear starting point for development programmes. This approach quickly gets people focussed onto the key areas of activity where changed or new behaviours will generate increased performance.

Later in the process teams complete a second self-perception profile to measure progress.

Team conversations

Teams have an on-line 'guide' taking them through a series of team conversations. It provides an agenda, and prompts discussions that lead to learning and fresh action.

Everyone in a team has access to the guide so there are no hidden agendas. Team leaders chair and facilitate a series of development meetings that stimulate and provoke discussions related to:

These conversations engage team members with the vision and direction of their business. Commitment is increased resulting in greater focus and higher quality management processes.

TCS - Cornerstones

"The activities were valuable and increasingly we are able to be more open with each other. I think the process has, and will, continue to be very useful in generating a common understanding of the expectation of behaviour."

Alison Jones, HR/OD Consultant, Vodafone

Action planning

The TCS action planning system enables teams to track actions agreed during their team conversations. It is a simple system where team goals are translated into tasks and allocated to individuals. Progress can be tracked quickly, easily and regularly.

"As a result of the process the team went immediately into a tough decision making meeting where they were decisive and committed to the decisions it was making - this was a definite improvement. They took the decisions to the executive table and were told that they had done what none of the other leadership teams had dared to do - definitely a positive move for them."

Team Tracker

TCS includes Team Tracker that is explained fully on page 7.

"TCS came just at the right time. My team was brand new; I was a new team leader, so it gave us a focus for team development. Team Tracker is a brilliant tool to provoke discussions in meetings."
